ART CARE INSTRUCTIONS

All artwork, original or reproduction, are made to archival/museum quality standards and comes directly from his studio in Barcelona, Spain.

Caring for your artwork ensures its longevity.

  • Frame the artwork as soon as possible, if you are going to frame it. Unstretched canvases can look great on their own pinned to the wall. Until the store it flat in the original packaging.

  • Avoid touching the artwork with your bare hands, it's best to handle the artwork with soft cotton gloves (if not, wash your hands well first) and only touch the white borders. Extra protection can be taken using a face mask.

  • If you frame the artwork yourself, I recommend using acid free/ PH-neutral materials.

  • Framing under anti-UV, museum grade glass or acrylic sheet will protect the artwork better and add a significant amount of longevity.

  • It's best to keep some air between the artwork and the glass/ acrylic. To do this, use a PH-neutral / acid free passepartout or spacers. A shadowbox frame is also a gorgeous option. An easy way to support the artwork is with acid free photo corners.

  • Never store the artwork upright nor on surfaces like corrugated cardboard or wood, as they are acidic and can also leave imprints in the artwork.

  • Place the artwork out of direct sunlight and other UV-rich light, like strong spotlights and fluorescents.

  • Avoid displaying the artwork above radiators, in places with high humidity or where they could be affected by chemicals.

  • Allow 6 month before hanging the artwork on newly plastered walls to avoid damp related damages.

  • Cleaning a framed piece of art should when possible only be done with a duster, to avoid water or cleaning agents coming in contact with the artwork and the frame. If you need to clean the glass of the frame with cleaning agents, apply a small amount to a duster and wipe the glass clean with that, never spray products directly on the framed piece.

  • If your artwork comes with a Certificate of Authenticity, please make a copy/photo for your archive, in case of damage or loss.

FAQ

What’s the Archival / Museum grade reproduction print quality?

Quality and longevity is important to me, hence all prints are made with Fine Art archival acid-free 100% cotton paper by Hahnemühle (unless stated otherwise) and highest standard archival pigment inks (10 colours). These prints should last you longer than a lifetime if handled and displayed properly. This type of print quality is sometimes called Giclée.

These prints are the best printed quality and are not the same as a (mass-produced) ‘art prints’ or posters.

I personally produce and inspect all the prints in my studio, making sure of the colour accuracy and quality.

All prints also receive an extra UV, scratch and fade resistant protective layer. All purchases come with a care instruction sheet to help you get the most of your new artworks longevity.

With photographic prints, please keep in mind that as I mainly work with analog photography, the images might contain grain (do not confuse this for pixelation), and they might not always be as sharp as digital photos.

What’s the quality of the Original artwork?

All original artwork are also created using only archival acid free materials.

Please bear in mind that original artworks may have some discrepancies due to the process of making.

Lino prints for example might have some ink stains and will vary slightly one from another, that’s part of their beauty and make them unique.

Originals & Editions explained

I provide different types of editions and artwork sizes to be able to give people with different budgets a chance to have artwork of mine in their lives.

  1. Originals - These are the original paintings, drawings and mixed media pieces. They are signed by me and come with a unique serial number and a Certificate of Authenticity. They might be reproduced digitally as prints and be used in books, marketing material, postcards, etc. Originals come protected with either a varnishing or protective spray to add an extra layer of archival grade protection. In general canvas paintings are not available from the webstore, please get in touch with me if you are interested in purchasing an original canvas painting.

  2. Hand Pulled Lino Cut Prints - They classify as originals, even though come in limited editions, as each is slightly different from the other. They are signed and numbered by me in pencil and come with a unique serial number and a Certificate of Authenticity. They are hand printed (pulled) with archival ink on high quality archival acid-free paper. They might be reproduced digitally as prints (based on a Artist Proof, making sure your copy stays unique) and be used in books, marketing material, postcards, etc. They come protected with a protective spray to add an extra layer of archival grade protection.

  3. Limited Editions - Photographs and reproductions of artwork. Only a certain amount is produced, after which they can never be reproduced as a limited or open edition Fine Art print again. They might however be used in books, marketing material, postcards, etc. Limited Edition photographs are considered originals (in editions under 30). Limited Editions are printed on a thicker grade paper, always on the same paper and using the same inks to make sure they are identical, signed and numbered by me in pencil, and comes with a unique serial number & a Certificate of Authenticity. Limited Editions come protected with a protective spray to add an extra layer of archival grade protection.

  4. Numbered Open Editions - Photographs and reproductions of artwork. There’s no limit to the quantity that can be made, however these are numbered consecutively and signed by me in pencil. Numbered Open Editions come protected with a protective spray to protect and ensure more longevity.

  5. Open Editions - Photographs and reproductions of artwork. When bought from me these are printed to the same standard as the Numbered Open Editions and signed by me in pencil. Some might also be licensed to other companies to be printed (to archival standards, but I do not personally print or inspect them, nor do they come signed).

What is the Certificate of Authenticity (COA)?

A Certificate of Authenticity (COA) is a certificate issued by me certifying the authenticity of the work of art purchased. An original COA is only issued once in a singular form, to the first buyer of a Limited Edition/ Special Edition (reproduction) print, Hand Pulled Lino Cut Print or an Original Artwork.

Each COA contains information about the print/artwork, an artist statement of authenticity, the artist signature, the number of print & edition (Limited/Special Editions and Lino Cut Prints only), and a unique stamped and hand written serial number (also found on the print/artwork).

It is advisable to make a copy or photo of the COA for your archive, in case the original COA is lost or destroyed.

Can I pick up a piece in person?

If you are in Barcelona, Spain, I am happy to meet up with you for you to purchase a piece, and save shipping costs that way.

How are the pieces shipped?

To ensure that the flat pieces arrive in perfect condition, they are sent protected by a plastic sleeve, sandwiched between rigid cardboard, inside a rigid mailer. Original and Limited/ Special Editions come wrapped in silk paper before being placed in the plastic sleeve.

Unstreched canvas pieces will ship in a tube or flat, depending on the size. Sculptures are sent protected and padded inside cardboard boxes.

I’ve tried to make the packaging as minimal in waste as possible. All paper and cardboard packaging materials are recycled and/or eco friendly, and can be recycled. Unfortunately the protective plastic is not made with recycled plastic.

How long does the shipping take?

I try to get the order out as quickly as possible.

Normally I ship once a week, otherwise I wouldn’t have the time to create more art ;) If you are in a rush to get a piece, please do get in touch before ordering and we can try to work something out, info@oscarlalexander.com.

As most reproduction prints are printed especially for you, please bear in mind that they do need to dry after production.

Due to this I will usually ship the order within 3-7 days after receiving the payment.

Orders within Spain and the EU should be with you within 2-7 days after shipping. With international orders, please count with 10-30 days, depending on your country. Due to customs checks and other problems that may occur in transit, this time can vary greatly. If by 8 weeks you still have not received the piece, please do get in touch and we will look into this. With orders to the U.S. please be aware that many delays tend to occur once the package has arrived in the U.S.

Before ordering:

  1. Please make sure you read the details of the product, making sure of the sizing and other details.

  2. Please bear in mind that due to different monitors (desktop, mobile, tablet, etc.) and their settings, the colours of the artwork might vary from the actual colours. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me before ordering via email or by Instagram DM.

Returns & Refunds

I try my best to make sure that you’re happy with your purchase, but if for some reason you are not happy with the piece or it has arrived damaged, please get in touch with me on info@oscarlalexander.com within 24h of receiving the order. If you are not happy with the piece, a refund can only be made if the piece is returned to me in its original state and packaging (you will have to pay for the postage charges), after receiving an authorisation from me.

In the unfortunate event that the order has arrived damaged, when getting in touch, please attach images of the damaged packaging and artwork, so that I can process a claim, and we can sort out a replacement. With limited or numbered editions I will need to have the piece returned to me for its disposal. If it is question of an original artwork, we can discuss further to see if you’d like another piece or a refund.

Prices

The price of each item is listed in Euros (€). If purchasing from a country with a different currency, the final price depends on the exchange rate and you might be subject to extra charges by your financial entity (both of which are out of my control).

The price of purchases within the EU is inclusive of Spanish VAT.

If purchasing from outside of the EU, there may be additional taxes, customs and importation fees to pay in your country of destination. These are your responsibility to pay.

Shipping costs are added on to the final price (unless stated otherwise).
